The former City Hall has been reborn as the Seoul Metropolitan Library for its citizens.

The Library will be the center of information, the center of all libraries, and the representative library of Seoul that establishes and implements various library policies for the city.

1980 May 1st Renamed to Seoul Metropolitan General Reference Room
1991 October 8 Opening of the Municipal Reference Room in the Seoul Metropolitan Government building
1997 September 20th Relocated to Euljiro Annex, opened as the Seoul City Reference Center
2007 September 20th

Relocated to basement of Dasan Plaza, Seosomun Annex 1

Promulgation of the Library Act (mandatory operation of representative libraries for each region)

Conducted academic services for the basic plan for the construction of the Seoul representative library
2008 March Remodeling of the old Seoul City Hall begins
2009 July 31st Formed a promotion team for the construction of the representative library
2012 September 28 Establishment of the Seoul Library Project Office
October 26 Seoul Metropolitan Library opened (Seoul City Reference Center integrated)
November 22nd Lee Yong-hoon appointed as the first director of the Seoul Metropolitan Library
2017 January 5th Lee Jeong-su appointed as the second director of the Seoul Metropolitan Library
2021 October 7th Seoul Smart Library opened
2022 February 14th Oh Ji-eun appointed as the third director of the Seoul Metropolitan Library
